Our Story

Who we are

We are a local Board of Directors – East Tas Education and Employment, formed in 2025 to facilitate education and employment outcomes in Eastern Tasmania. We were thrilled to receive funding from the Australian Government to establish a Regional University Study Hub (RUSH) in Eastern Tasmania.

We join 55 other communities across Australia in the RUSH Network who make it easier for students to achieve their higher and vocational education goals closer to home. Including our fellow Tasmanian Study Hubs on the West Coast (Zeehan, Smithton and King Island) and the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub in Sorell.

We have affiliated with Country Universities Centre (CUC) to establish CUC Eastern Tasmania in St Helens, which connects to a network of 28 CUCs across eastern Australia all learning from and supporting each other.

Why we’re here

Everyone deserves the chance to chase their dreams, no matter where they live. We’re here to provide regional students with the tools, space, and support they need to build a brighter future—for themselves and their communities.

What we do

We’re building a study space designed by locals for locals, offering free access to high-speed internet, modern tech, and academic support. Our students can connect with a national network of learners, creating opportunities beyond the classroom.

We’re all about empowering our local community through higher education. By creating strong local learning networks, we’re breaking down the barriers and helping students reach their full potential—right where they are.

Who we’re here for

If you’re studying with an Australian university or higher education provider, we’re here for you. We’re also here for local businesses and organisations that want to connect with students, offer placements, or support work-based learning.

Our Centre is a welcoming space for everyone, and we celebrate the diversity of our community.

Country Universities Centre

The Country Universities Centre (CUC) is a place-based initiative changing education to better fit the future of regional Australia. We support regional communities across Australia to establish and operate a locally owned Centre in their community that provides equitable access to higher education and vocational opportunities and support for students to succeed.

Regional University Study Hubs are funded by the Australian Government to help students in regional and remote areas access higher education without having to leave their community. They provide student support and study facilities for students who study online.

Students who live in regional and remote areas can visit their local hub to support their study of tertiary courses from any Australian institution. Hubs provide study spaces with access to computers and other technology, administrative and academic support services, and student support services.

Find out more about the program and the incredible network of centres across Australia (currently 56 hubs!) at the Regional University Study Hubs Network website.

At CUC Eastern Tasmania we are excited to join the Tasmanian study hubs, West Coast Study Hub with centres in Zeehan, Smithton and King Island and Southeast Tasmania Study Hub in Sorell.
